These strawberry cream cheese squares are a delicious, surprising treat. Delicious because the creamy, tart cream cheese blends beautifully with the sweet and sticky strawberry jam. Delicious because the pasty is flaky, buttery and simply melts in your mouth. And they’re surprising because of what the pasty is made of. You see, it’s a cream cheese pastry. Yes – a pastry made using cream cheese.
I honestly had no idea how these squares would work out. Cream cheese is a winner especially when made into frosting (carrot cake and cream cheese frosting ohmyword)– but pastry? Hmm, I wasn’t so sure.
These mini edible delectable proved me wrong, though, and I’m glad they did. The dough is easy to make and is basically fool-proof meaning you can’t go wrong with them. The pastry is buttery and soft and perfectly compliments the creamy strawberry and cream cheese filling. The pastries are simply delicious and taste like the sweet pastries bought from the local bakery, minus all the nasty additives, preservatives and ingredients no one’s ever heard of before. Can it get any better than that?
Make sure these beauties are completely cool before you dig in. Strawberry jam is nasty when it’s very hot! They’ll be worth the wait, trust me. They keep well for a few days when stored in an airtight container and refrigerated – if they last that long, that is.
