The other day when I woke up, my house was actually chilly. And by chilly, I mean can’t-pry-yourself-out-of-bed-because-the-blankets-feel-so-nice cold. The kind of mornings that are just begging to sit down and enjoy a hot meal of something nourishing.
Oatmeal is one of our go-to staples, especially steel cut — which is considered a protein packed super food! (Here’s a post on the 11 incredible health benefits of oats). It’s a great way to start your morning, but if you’re short on time it’s an easy one to overlook.
So this week I got to try these Pacific organic Steel-Cut Oatmeal, which are not only delicious but so convenient! They are certified USDA organic, and source their oats as close to home as possible while also using sustainable practices.
Packed with protein, fiber, and heart-healthy whole grains, this Organic Oatmeal is made by slow cooking steel-cut oats to maintain their homemade taste, hearty texture, and nutrition. And with just 2 minutes of heat time, it’s ready before your coffee!
Now, of course you can just enjoy the Oatmeal as-is, but we decided to have a little fun with it. We barely modified it at all, but by mixing it with a little flour and pan-frying them we were able to come up with these crunchy on the outside, gooey on the inside, breakfast cakes!
I’m going to give you the basic rundown of how we make these, but my using different flavors and different topics the possibilities are literally endless!
- Apple Cinnamon oatmeal + topped with softened apples
- Maple and brown sugar + topped with maple syrup and pecans
- Plain + mixed with fresh herbs and savory cheese
You see? It’s super easy!
