We all know that day after day, week after week I profess my love of cooking for my family. They’re the inspiration behind almost all of my dishes and if my creations don’t pass their taste tests then they don’t make it onto the blog. But things got a little tricky this week when my husband got sick and didn’t eat for about two entire days– which is a long time for a big guy like him. Add onto that the fact that he couldn’t try any of the recipes that I was testing out and I was pretty bummed, to say the least.
But on the other hand, being sick in our house means getting lots of special attention. That means cuddling up on the couch, in front of a warm fireplace, under piles of blankets, and watching movies all evening long.
Since my husband is obsessed with capers and smoked salmon we put together a little movie night and I made this simple finger food for us to snack on. After all.. cheese and movies? A perfect match! We were inspired by this Havarti Dill; it has a mild, buttery taste and smooth, creamy texture that can be sliced, grilled or melted.
We started with flatbread, a thick slab of smoked salmon from our local European store, caper berries, fresh dill, creamy cheese, arugula.. should I pause right there and let this sink in? With a line of ingredients like this we kept the process super simple. No fuss, no mess, just simple good eating.
For the recipe I included measurements but it’s not really a measuring type of thing. Those are simply guidelines– feel free to get creative and make this recipe totally your own!
