Back in the day, fats were bad. Fats were evil. Fats made you “gain weight”. They were frowned upon and people stayed away from them.
Avocadoes, nut butters and nuts were often overlooked on supermarket shelves. Cheeses too.
But thanks to new research (which has been scientifically and personally proven time and time again) fats are not bad for you and do not cause you to gain weight. In fact, they’re very good for you.
Avocadoes and nuts are either high in omega-3s (excellent for one’s brain) or high in protein and keep you feeling full for a long, long time.
Despite the bad rap nuts received in years gone by for their high fat content, they’ve made a comeback. Hooray!
I love eating nuts in trail mixes or as snacks, but sometimes I like to sugar-coat them and make them into unhealthy desserts.
Like these pecan caramel bars. The base is buttery and crumbly, the caramel thick and chewy and the nuts crunchy.
