The weather is too nice to be sitting inside glued to a computer! This month I’m just giving you some tips to make spending time outside a whole lot more fun!
Take a day away from electronics.
Yes — cell phone, computer, PDA, TV, radio — whether you pretend to be a caveman/woman, a Peace Corps Volunteer or just practicing for when the power goes out, take a whole day. You’ll be amazed at how calm your body feelsand how sharp your mind can be.
Instead of sunscreen, try using sesame oil. I know it sounds crazy, but when Dr. Gabriel Cousens recommended it at the Tree of Life (which is in the high desert!) I tried it and found that it worked! I’ve used it at home, too, with great results. If you’re afraid of smelling like Asian Chicken Salad, add some lavender or peppermint essential oil.
After a day in the sun, you might want to add peppermint oil to any moisturizing lotions you use. Of course, a fresh aloe vera or avocado makes a greatmoisturizer if you’ve taken too much sun.
Dilute some essential oil in water or a carrier oil such as jojoba or almond and rub on your skin. For mosquitoes, you might use citronella (lemongrass), evergreen and eucalyptus. For biting flies, basil or geranium works well. If you do get bit, peppermint oil or tea tree oil can be very helpful. I’ve also used a dab of undiluted Dr. Bronner’s peppermint soap with great results. If there is swelling, ice can be helpful.
