Chemically speaking, chocolate really is the world’s perfect food. ― Michael Levine
Chocolate and Valentine’s day: they go to together like strawberries and cream.
Coincidentally, this recipe has a little bit of all of those elements.
You know me, I try to keep my baking simple. But this Ghirardelli Neapolitan cupcakes were just too tempting to pass up. They’re a triple threat:
- Rich, chocolate base.
- Complimentary layers of creamy, homemade frosting.
- Adorable Valentine’s Day sprinkles to top it all off.
I’m not really a chocolate addict, but there are a few times a year when I like to get really crazy. If you remember our Dutch Baby with a Salted Ghirardelli Chocolate Sauce or the Valentine’s Day Mini Hand Pies from last year then you may know that February 14 is one of those days to indulge.
We used a few different types of chocolates when making these cupcakes.
Lastly, for a limited time you can get Ghirardelli Valentine’s Day Impressions. Personally I’d choose these over candy conversation hearts anytime! They come with messages like “love,” “xoxo,” “sweet,” and “be mine”– how cute would those be for your Valentines?
To make the frosting, I made one big batch of really simple Buttercream and then I split it into thirds and flavored each one individually. The strawberry reduction is the trickiest part of it (although it’s really not tricky), but if you wanted to omit that step I think that a good strawberry jam would work really with it as well!
