This is a sponsored post brought to you by Tom’s of Maine. I’m proud to say that I’ll be an ambassador for them throughout this year and as always, all opinions are my own!
I like to consider myself a minimalist-in-training. For the past several years, I’ve devoted a lot of time to purging and keeping our house free of all of the extra things that we somehow accumulate. Without fail though, every time I turn around I feel like I’m tripping over more stuff.
I guess the thing is, no matter how mindful you try to be, there are a couple times a year that you just need to sit down and purge.
At this point my kids are used to it, and I’m so proud of them for their honesty with me when it comes to getting rid of things they no longer play with. We go by the KonMari method of: if it doesn’t bring you happiness, it doesn’t need to stay. It also helps to explain to them that since they no longer play with these things, we can pass them on to children who don’t have a lot of toys to play with.
For us, donating comes easily enough (after all, our family owns a thrift store!) but what about the other stuff? More than 250 million tons of waste is generated every year in the United States [Source: Environmental Protection Agency] so whenever we have a chance to reduce what goes into landfills, we jump right on it. For 45 years, Tom’s of Maine has been taking its own #LessWasteChallenge by developing natural personal care products with a focus on natural, responsible and sustainable practices and materials. Today, Tom’s of Maine has a goal of zero waste to landfills by 2020 at its manufacturing facility in Maine.
To encourage families to reduce waste and to inspire future generations to make more sustainable choices, Tom’s of Maine and TerraCycle joined forces to launch the #LessWasteChallenge
The #LessWasteChallenge is a great way to get kids involved and educate them on how to be good stewards. Are you ready to take the pledge? In the comments, let me know if you’re in, then hop on over to the site to print off your own label. We’re working with Tom’s of Maine to do a giveaway, so I’ll draw a winner from the comments below and you’ll get a care package from Tom’s!
