The holidays are quickly approaching and I’ve got entertaining on my mind. I’m always searching for that perfect dish. One that we can eat any time of day. Something that’s sweet and comforting yet still mellow and filling.
But above all, something that’s easy, doesn’t take much time, and will please a crowd.
With just a little bit of preplanning you can whip this up too and steal the spotlight at Thanksgiving (or really, any day. I don’t think this has to be reserved for special occasions only).
By preparing this the night before your guests arrive you allow your french toast to soak up all the vanilla-y cinnamon-y pumpkin-y goodness and in the morning you just gotta pop it in the oven and you’re good to go.
Sure, you can start with crusty stale bread (and sometimes I do), but these sweet and moist King’s Hawaiian® Dinner Rolls were calling to me. They’re soft and tender and buttery, and pretty hard to resist. You can find them in most grocery stores, too!
I know it’s hard to wait and let them soak overnight, and you can fudge it (and I do). But at least give them a few hours.
While that’s going on, can we discuss this sauce a little bit? It’s not “knock you to the ground” sweet. It’s mellow, it’s chill, and it’s got just the right combination of pumpkin and cream to pair with these delicate french toast rolls. Also the color just screams autumn.
A few minutes in the oven and they came out deep and golden on the outside and soft and gooey on the inside.
Drizzle with a little (or a lot) of sauce and start your holidays off on the right foot!
