It’s no secret that we do Halloween big in our house. As a family who traditionally subscribes to the 80/20 rule (you know, 80 percent “good for you” foods, and 20 percent “have fun and be kids”), I think that the children especially appreciate a day (or a weekend, or honestly: a whole month) where they can eat all those goodies that we don’t normally allow them to have.
Plus the costumes, and the dressing up. Did I mention how adorable my girls are?
My parents throw a huge weekend long Halloween party every October, and we love having fun with the treats and snacks that we provide. We especially love things that are oozy, gooey, slimy and (of course!) delicious.
This year me and my youngest boo had fun coming up with a creative fruit-filled version of gelatin with a Strawberries and Cream Heart– you know, the yucky kind of heart, not the lovey dovey Valentine’s Day kind.
We followed the traditional recipe, but replaced one cup of the water it suggested with half a pint of fresh pureed strawberries. See the texture and the seeds? My daughter loved that!
But she especially loved being able to indulge. We served our Strawberries & Cream heart with a generous portion of fresh whipped cream and I let her have at it. Just look at that little face!
