One of my biggest pet peeves ever are those late night commercials proclaiming the next big revolution in weight loss. Whether it’s some trendy new workout or the latest scientific breakthrough via a pill, this stuff is all. over. the. place.
It drives me crazy because I know better, but I still get sucked into all of the hype. Detoxes, cleanses, pills, essential oils, whatever. Let’s all be honest though.. we know that getting healthy will ONLY come from eating real, nutrient dense food and getting exercise. It’s that simple.
The other day I was offered an opportunity to sample the products from Chuice and share about their “un-tox” movement– you know, the idea that you should just start eating real foods: no juice cleanses, no detoxes, just good ol’ fashion healthy eating. Chuice contains over 35 fruits, vegetables, herbs, nuts and seeds and unlike regular juices it has 9 grams of fiber in each 12oz bottle.
So in the spirit of un-toxing, let’s discuss other things that we can all do to naturally get back energy and live healthier lives!
Exercise.
While it may feel like the last thing you want to do when you’re tired, exercise can invigorate the body. It promotes good circulation and gets oxygen throughout your body. Do something light like jumping rope or brisk walking.
Meditate.
Even if it’s just for a few minutes, meditation can help you escape from what’s stressing you out in the first place. All the stimulation and stressors of life can be overwhelming, making you feel driven all the time to accomplish as much as possible. Meditation gives you a break from your stressful environment.
Sleep well.
Do try to get at least 8 hours of quality sleep every night. It seems obvious, but it’s actually one of the last things many people consider when they complain of fatigue during the day.
Stretch.
Stretching both relaxes and invigorates the body. Yoga, Tai Chi, and other stretching techniques can help.
Dance.
Put on some uplifting music and get moving! Let it guide you around the room in an energizing dance. Maybe you have some old music from high school or college that will bring back some nostalgia.
Eat well.
This one is obvious, right? Good nutrition is key to feeling good. Whole grains, nuts, fresh fruits and vegetables deliver a lot of nutrition per calorie. Some people claim that raw foods are especially effective at boosting energy levels. Chewable foods are helpful because chewing helps to naturally begin the digestive process and also improves satiety.
