Ever catch yourselves without bread to make sandwiches at lunchtime?
Are your kids tired of peanut butter and jelly sandwiches?
Are you looking for ways to sneak in a little extra protein and healthy fat in your kids diets?
If you answered yes to any of these questions, Double Nut-Butter waffle-wiches are for you!
Step 1: Take your favorite whole grain waffle recipe, or multi-grain waffle mix.
Step 2: Add 1-3 TBL peanut butter, almond butter, or any other nut butters to the mix.
Step 3: Make Waffles as directed.
Step 4: Spread Peanut butter and jelly between two waffles.
My kids were pretty excited to try these, and they loved them.
Tips for making sure you have the freshest and healthiest peanut butter:
- Ideally, if you could buy your own nuts and grind them up, you can be sure there are no chemicals, preservatives, sugars, or anything else you don’t want your kids eating. And if you want to add a little sugar, try this delicious recipe for nut butter!
- An alternative, and just as healthy: Look for markets that have a peanut butter dispenser/ grinder. This has been the cheapest way I’ve seen to get all natural peanut butter (I believe my store has it for .10 per ounce).
- Lastly, when buying commercial peanut butter, as always check the ingredient list. If peanuts are the only thing listed, BINGO! Buy it!
