This has been our life for the past several months since we moved and when I often get asked, “how do you handle that?” my answer is simple:
It’s the best thing that’s ever happened to us. As a blogger I feel like I am especially tied to electronics; my job basically depends on that. And with that in mind I always had an excuse to tie myself to my phone, iPad and the computer. I’ve always believed in the sanctity of family time, especially during family dinners, where no electronics are welcome and the five of us have to just get to hang out. and talk. and laugh.
How about you? Do you feel like you’re tethered to your devices?
On Sunday, June 14, Dixie launched a movement called #DarkForDinner, encouraging families to be more present in the moments that matter most and spend more meaningful time together, especially during dinner. In order to really appreciate the company of your family during dinner, the #DarkForDinner movement asks those participating to turn off all cell phones, televisions, computers or other electronic devices to ensure the time together is distraction free.
Join Dixie by participating in the #DarkForDinner movement. For one family dinner, make sure work calls, personal calls, social media or other distractions do not take away from time you can spend together. Go #DarkForDinner and enjoy great conversation and time with what really matters most in life, your family. Think it’ll be a tough transition for you? Replace your next dinner with a BBQ. Leave your phones inside so you don’t even think about them. Cook together, eat together, go swimming, sit around a campfire. Tell stories, ask questions beyond the traditional “how was your day?” and see what kind of conversations ensue.
And maaaaaybe you’ll decide that you like it so much you want all of your dinners to be technology free!
