It’s hard to miss that Easter is nearly here. The shops make a point of making sure that we don’t miss Easter. In fact, the shops are full of Easter-related goodies. Easter bunnies, Easter eggs, baskets of all sorts of shapes, sizes and colors, mini fluffy chicks and chocolate are just some of the things that are available currently.
Also, hot cross buns. Hot cross buns are in over abundance at the moment. Mocha, fruitless, chocolate, traditional… the varities are almost endless these days. Whatever flavor you settle on, you’re guaranteed a spicy, soft bun with decadent flavour in each and every bite.
However there is one thing I do not like about the store bought hot cross buns.
It’s the preservatives and additives. It’s those strange numbers that are listed on the ingredient list. What am I really feeding myself? That bit scares me sometimes.
So in order to make up for it, I decided to make my own hot cross buns this year: chocolate chip hot cross buns. Not only are these fresher and somewhat healthier than the store bought version, but they’re tastier too. Seriously.
They’re laden with chocolate chips so you’re guaranteed that sweet, melted goodness in each and every bite. And thanks to the spices, you’ll still get that distinct hot cross bun flavour.
