This recipe didn’t start off as a gumbo, I just had an idea in my head of the flavors I wanted to create, and in the end the stars aligned to form this. So this isn’t a true gumbo, but I think it’s definitely in the ballpark.
In our house, we eat rice at least a few times a week. I love how easy it is to prepare, and since we have bigger eaters in our family, it’s a cost-effective way to make our frugal meals more filling.
For this dish, we started with Rice Select Texmati® Brown Rice. An award-winning, all-natural, whole-grain rice.
More than 35 years ago, RiceTec introduced a rice variety called Texmati®, which is the first aromatic rice to be grown successfully in America and resembles the basmati rice grown in the Himalayas. Texmati rice stays firm and separate after cooking, and it is extraordinarily delicious.

With brown rice as the base, we just cooked up a few veggies, some mixed seafood (We simply used a frozen blend for this to save ourselves time) and bacon– it’s that simple! Top with fresh herbs and you’ve got a dish that’s light and delicious.
