It’s me again, with another tip of home decor! In addition to crafting and cooking, I’m a huge fan of just … making things look pretty. In fact, I’m super jealous of people who don’t have kids because they can just decorate however they want and not have to worry about little sticky fingers all over the place.
Over the past few years I’ve become a big fan of minimalism– once again, this gets to be especially tough when you have kids, but it certainly can be done.
I know you may be tired of hearing me croning on about winter, but it’s right around this time that I give my house a little update and do some early Spring cleaning to lighten my spirits. This doesn’t mean you have to go out and spend a fortune or buy loads of unnecessary knickknacks. Just make a few simple tweaks and enjoy your lighter, brighter home.
Pst, be sure to read all the way to the end because we’re giving away $200 worth of LushDecor products (That’s enough to buy everything that I mention in this post!)
Basically, I think that there are three simple things you can do to make your living room lighter and brighter. The best part about all of these things is that they serve multiple purposes: they’re decorative and functional as well!
I think it goes without saying that pillows really make a room. What’s better for a minimalist than decorations that also keep you comfortable? I love to think of a bright, clean room as a good base. Throw in some comfortable furniture that’s nice and neutral but use accent pillows to really infuse personality into your living space!
Plus, pillows are easy to change out each season.
Get comfy with a throw
No late night cuddle session is complete without a soft, comfortable blanket in arms reach at all times. Drape something soft and plush (like this Rosina Throw, swoon!) over the back of your couch.
This also has the added benefit of covering up any unsightly spots on your sofa. I mean, we’re just being realistic, right?
Privacy with sheer drapes
Curtains have always been tough for me. On the one hand, I’m obsessed with textiles. I have so much fun with patterns and textures and I’ve always seen curtains as really fun ways to play up your walls. On the other hand, there’s something about a white room with tons of natural lighting.
Sheer curtains are a way of getting the best of both worlds, especially when you pick out a fun fabric (like the one I used above). Perfect for letting light in while keeping nosey neighbors away.
