The blender is beheld far and wide as a favorite kitchen appliance. What can’t it do, after all? Chopping nuts? No problem. Margaritas? In a snap. Morning smoothies? Yes please. Even baby food can be made in a blender, and that’s what makes them so amazing. But once you learn all the little secrets — and yes, it does sound crazy — about your blender, it will bump up from being “one of your favorite” appliances to being “your favorite.” Did you know that they’re easy to clean, and that single-serving treats can be made in an instant? Read on, kitchen ninjas. You’ll shun the food processor from this point forward.
Easy to Clean
One reason a lot of people are reluctant to bust out the blender and make a late night milkshake is because there’s kind of a difficult cleanup ahead — or so they think. Sure, you use a lot of dairy when you’re making many blended drinks, and you don’t really want to go at those blades with a sponge. But next time you make a shake, try this: fill the pitcher with hot water and a tad of dish soap, and then turn it on “high” for a minute. No scrubbing necessary, just rinse and clean!
If you’re super lazy and trying to make just one serving of a liquid snack, here’s something that will blow your mind: mason jars can screw into the bottom and blades of your pitcher. Just screw off the blades and screw them onto a mason jar, blend it up, then remove and unscrew. This makes one serving of drink that is easy to take on-the-go, and best of all, is an easy cleanup.
Make Nut Butters
All you organic nuts are going to love this. High in protein and healthy fats, nut butters are tasty and healthy. All you have to do is choose your nut of choice or try mixing a few together. A lot of people enjoy making their own almond and cashew butter. All you have to do is put them in the blender and start out on a low speed, gradually increasing it, coaxing the oils out of the nuts. Then, add any flavorings you like — many people like to add cocoa powder, sugar, honey, maple syrup, or coconut oil to make their nut butters, but play around with recipes. You can even start making peanut butter on the cheap!
Blenders Last Forever
Unlike your microwave, which you know you’re going to buy a new one if it breaks, blenders are easy to fix. Cuisinart blender parts are available online for fairly cheap, and they’re all easy to replace. That way, instead of buying a new blender, just buy a new pitcher, blade, plug, or whatever you might need to keep that bad boy kicking for years to come.
