Happy National Family Meals Month, y’all! September is here and as the weather cools, it’s time to shift our attention to creamy, satisfying comfort foods. Even though the weather has become less favorable for one to enjoy picnics, barbeque dinners and outdoor meals, you can still enjoy eating meals together – albeit indoors – as a family.
I personally cherish meal times with my family. As we’ve each grown older and have increasingly busy schedules, we still try to enjoy a meal together at least three times a week. We enjoy catching up on each others’ news and exchanging humorous stories.
When it’s family meal time, I like to keep the meals simple, satisfying and easy to whip up. This is where this decadent meal comes in. A rich and creamy cheese sauce with lots of crispy, thick cut bacon makes this Macaroni and Cheese a party for your tastebuds. Plus, you can cook everything in only one pot if you wanted to!
I cannot remember a time this Mac and Cheese recipe wasn’t around. It’s like the omnipresent garlic in the Middle Eastern cuisine. Garlic with salad, garlic with hummus. Garlic with chicken, garlic with steak. Garlic in kebabs, garlic with pita bread. Garlic with sautéed zucchini and if you were sick, garlic with Greek yogurt. In my family, this mac and cheese recipe has been around for a long, long time. And only once you’ve tried it will you find out why it’s so popular! It’s very rich, creamy and flavorsome. And it’s got bacon. Because bacon. Om nom nom. If you wanted to, you could even make this in one pot. Simply cook your pasta beforehand then as it’s draining, you can cook the onions and bacon. Make the creamy white sauce in the same pot as your onions and bacon, and viola! comfort food at its finest.
