What do you do when you move to an area and you don’t know anyone yet? It’s simple: throw a dinner party celebrating everyone’s favorite grocery store + feed them yummy food + give them an opportunity to win a $250 gift card to ALDI. Oh, and don’t worry, that gift card opportunity extends to you all, too!
If you all have been following my Instagram, you’ll know that I recently hosted a dinner party to show off the selection of foods at our local ALDI. My goal was to keep the menu simple and serve up some of the unique things that I could find at ALDI on a budget. Fortunately for me, their selection is huge and their prices are low, and shopping for the party was fun, quick and easy!
I knew that I wanted to keep the foods pretty hands-off because for this introvert, entertaining takes a lot of energy. Most of the foods were served cold and consisted of lots of meat and cheese. (And I do mean a lot!)
A variety of hummus with crackers:
The night before, we marinated zucchini with balsamic vinegar and smoked shrimp and tomatoes to make skewers, along with fresh mozzarella and bacon.
And because I wanted a star dish to show off, we spent some time coming up with these bad boys! Panko crusted meatballs packed with veggies and fried, served over arugula and crostini, then drizzled with Dijon sauce. Okay, that was a mouthful (pun intended), so I’ll do a follow-up post with the full instructions on how to make these guys, so stay tuned for that next week!
Of course to balance out all of that, we had to include a few lighter options, and probably the most popular thing was Happy Farms Preferred Brie, drizzled with maple syrup and baked until it just began to get gooey. I was so impressed with the selection of fresh organic produce at ALDI. They carry all of the essentials that our family loves and I couldn’t get over how ripe and sweet the strawberries and pears were. And did I mention Happy Farms Preferred honey goat cheese? Mmmm.
If you’re looking to make a quick and easy appetizer for your next dinner party, I highly recommend this favorite Brie En Croute that we can’t get enough of!
Because nothing says desert like coffee and chocolate:
